Born in the San Francisco Bay Area to parents from Cuba and Puerto Rico, Gabriela is a seasoned bilingual communications professional with over 12-years’ experience in print and public radio newsrooms, on film-production sets, studios, non-profits, festivals, events and corporate entities.

Starting her career operating as the Editor-In-Chief of San Francisco’s longest running bilingual newspaper, El Tecolote, her heart lies in building bridges cross-culturally, impacting policy, inspiring change, advancing social/environmental justice, and art/culture projects globally.

Her portfolio is extensive and includes collaborations and published work on Duolingo, El Nuevo Dia, NPR, Univision, Voices of New York and research work for the Menudo documentary currently streaming on HBO Max.

She has done consulting work for a host of clients, including The Acacia Network, The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI), Maestra Productions, The New School’s Tishman School of Environment and Design, Maestra Productions, The Philadelphia Latino Arts & Film Festival and The Super Fine Art Fair among others.

Gabriela holds a Masters degree in Journalism from the City University of New York that was fully funded by the publishers of the New York Times, a certificate in Spanish philology from La Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and a Bachelors degree in International Relations from San Francisco State University.

She has lived internationally but her favorite city in the world remains San Francisco. When she is not writing, she enjoys spending time in nature, water color painting, cooking and building community.
